1917 csfd. De s"approcher trop. I"ve never expected to like this movie, but i actually did... a lot ??. 1917 one shot. 1917 subtitles. You know, some movies impress me, some others make me laugh, a few select others make me cry. Well, this film made me sweat. A lot SPOILERS I realized how disgustingly hot I felt during one of the last scenes, when Will decides he"s going to run outside the trenches to get to the soldier he"s looking for, risking his life by exposing himself to enemy fire and artillery. I wanted to take my hoodie off. And, just at that point, I started to recall all the journey he goes through: how, in a matter of about 15 hours, he goes from a rather safe spot in the trenches to right the frontline, he loses a close friend, he probably saves the life of a woman and a child, he ends up losing almost all his equipment, all his food, weapons and ammo. And on that last sequence, he says to himself I"m fucking getting to the end, and delivers one of the most epic runs I"ve ever witnessed in a film. It"s not that scene alone, is how we realize there hasn"t been a moment to stop, around a campfire, the only moment he actually pauses is when he gets knocked out, just to get right back up when he wakes up. It"s exhausting to be an spectator of this movie, and I absolutely loved that. It made me feel like I was there, as a soldier, and had to watch my best battle buddy suffer with pure impotence. That"s simply genius. What a movie. What a fucking movie.
I saw the film after the limited release was lifted, amazing, heart wrenching, powerful, i was as emotionally drained as the actor at the end of the film. 1917 pandemic flu. Yes. It"s a masterpiece. It transports you from the beginning to the end. The cinematography and the music are phenomenal. Weak writing, overall unrealistic and definitely overrated. Aside Charlie s Angels and Jumanji all others look great. Not many films have been made on World War I, so I was interested in seeing what Sam Mendes would bring to the table when I went to an advanced screening of this. The movie is absolutely breathtaking and thrilling. The cinematography makes you feel as though you are joining these 2 soldiers every step of the way. Each action sequence in the film keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would definitely say this is an IMAX kind of film and highly recommend that everyone sees this in theaters for the best experience. This is without a doubt the best war film since Saving Private Ryan.

Now I know I"m going to love it. If you have seen Saving Private Ryan and practically any other war movie you will recognize all of these tropes:

I could go on. but you get the point.
Maybe I am too old and having seen nearly war movie, they are all starting to look the same.

I"ve been looking forward to this. First R-rated movie to ever cross 1 billion. Deserved. ?????????????????????????????????????????????? , 1000. 1917 movie reviews. Youre a political prisoner Harry. 1917 awards. Saw this film at tiff"s secret movie club which was also the film"s north American premier. This is a well made war film with technical aspects being really stand out. It is a towering achievement for cinematography, the sound work is top notch, the depiction of front lines, trenches, the mud filled with rotten corpses was incredibly powerful and Sam Mendes did a masterful directing here.
However I"ve had some issues that I think really hurt the film and leave a bad taste:
1. There are a few scenes here that probably belong to James Bond flicks than a realistic world war film. I won"t spoil anything but I wonder how Mr Mendes would have made this before Skyfall.
2. Again there are some events that are highly dramatized and some of them feel just dumb/unrealistic. I don"t know how much control did Mendes have on this production but I was really annoyed at certain times.
Overall I think this is a worth-watching, expertly made war film that would"ve been a great one but it"s still enjoyable.
